Steel Hammer Bushing for Mark III and 22/45 Pistols

At a glance:
  • Magazines will slip right out
  • Easier takedown and cleaning
  • Can reduce failure to feeds
  • Comes with colored installation instructions

This high quality 304 stainless steel bushing is made for high duty cycle shooting and replaces the Ruger® factory bushing allowing you to safely remove the magazine disconnect from the firearm. There are instructions on the internet showing the use of washers and other parts, but this is unreliable and unsafe! Use an actual part that is designed for the job. This bushing lets the hammer move properly and at the correct speed. You will be pleased with the fit and final result with this bushing. If you know how to clean this gun you can easily remove the disconnect. Removing the disconnect allows the magazines to fall free, allows them to seat properly and does allow the gun to fire with the magazine out for tactical competition and self-defense scenarios. Check to see if your state requires the magazine disconnect installed if the firearm is ever resold.

*** ATTN: FAQ: Will this bushing work in my Volquartsen Hammer? YES. The bushing and VQ hammer will work together. However, it can be a tight fit to get them together. Please let us know if you are experiencing trouble and we will get you a bushing that will fit into the tighter VQ hammer.

    Ruger MKIII (standard) upgrades

Posted by Dewey Landrum on 5th May 2017

This bushing effectively removes the interlock between the magazine and trigger, making cleaning and disassembly simpler since you don't have to repeatedly take an empty magazine in and out. I was having occasional problems with failure to feeds, failure to ejects, and light strikes out of my Ruger MKIII. So I did a little research and decided to take a chance on fixing it myself. I installed the following components: Volquartsen Firearms Targe Sear Part Number:3304N0151SSL1 "Eagle's Talon" Extractor Part Number:1705N0012SSL1 Steel Hammer Bushing Part Number:TK04N0002SSL1 "Fire Starter" Titanium Firing Pin Part Number:TK05N0011SSL1 LCI Replacement Insert - Black Part Number:TK04N0003BLK1 The steel hammer bushing was to get rid of the trigger-magazine interlock. Installation was simple, except for the sear. I have big fingers and parkinson's and could the sear is really slick. I had to use a pair of tweezers to hold the sear and the video is sort of iffy on the spring install. Everything else, just follow the videos. Measurements on trigger put dropped from 4 pounds 1 oz. to 1 pound 9 oz. In 250+ rounds fired after the parts replacement, there wasn't a single failure to feed or failure to eject. I did have two misfires. I believe these to be complete duds instead of misfires. I cycled the bullets through again and they still did not fire. And to be fair, the ammo was more than 20 years old. In any case, I consider this to be a successful remediation of problems with my MKIII and it is now much more reliable and less frustrating to shoot. There were no failures of any kind with ammo that purchased within the last decade.

Bushing works as designed, magazine release is much smoother than previously and disassembly/assembly is also simplified by installation of this product.

Turn your MK III into a MK II for Ten Bucks. This is the easiest way to get past the annoying features of the MK III and have a Ruger that disassembles like a MKII with a magazine release thats easy to operate. Win Win.

    Hammer Bushing

I received the hammer bushing within a few days of placing the order. Installation was extremely easy thanks to the video. The bushing works as advertised. Magazines actually eject now, & disassembly & reassembly is easier & in my opinion, safer.

    Works as advertised

I really like the way the magazines release from the pistol now. Previously I had to practically pry them out. Also makes assembling the firearm a little easier, so I won't have to sell my Mark III and buy a Mark IV. I'm not particularly mechanically inclined, so it did take me a little longer than some other folks to install the bushing. Probably because I was being very careful. Between the written instructions and the video available, I think most people should be able to do this themselves.

    Great Aproduct

I bought the bushing to use in my Mk III 22/45 that has a Volquartsen trigger kit installed. The bushing works great, only drawback is it will not fit in the Volquartsen hammer. So, I put the stock hammer back in and it works fine.
