The TANDEMKROSS "Fire Starter" Titanium Firing Pin for Ruger® MK™ Series is a drop in replacement for the factory firing pin. A titanium firing pin is lighter and moves faster than a heavier steel pin. This reduces lock time and allows the gun to go off faster which can help to improve accuracy. The lighter titanium pin is resistant to mushrooming and will provide repeatability with positive primer strikes. With less deformation of the casing due to the lighter weight of the firing pin it can also lead to better extraction. The stability of titanium over steel makes it an ideal choice of material when operating in extreme heat or cold conditions.

    Reduces stove pipes

The lighter weight improves stovepipes. Shot over 100 rounds with this new firing pin and inspected cases. Strong indents, no failures to fire. Worth the small investment.

I experienced 2 to 4 misfires per magazine with this firing pin. It was returned.

Absolute garbage - at LEAST a 50% failure rate on ammunition going off. Prior to installation would have 1 out of 25 or 30 rounds would be a misfire, after installation, 5 of 10 would misfire. Four different kinds of ammo were tried, Federal, Winchester and Remington, all misfired the same. Guys I shoot with asked me what was wrong with my gun as mine usually works and shoots the best. I would not even give it a rating of one star but that's as low as it goes.

Oem had about 25k rounds on it and is still good; hopefully this one wears as well or less. Perfect fit and function, easy to install. Highly recommend as upgrade or replacement.

Titanium Firing pin and other upgrades

Posted by Dewey Landrum on 5th May 2017

I was having occasional problems with failure to feeds, failure to ejects, and light strikes out of my Ruger MKIII. So I did a little research and decided to take a chance on fixing it myself. I installed the following components: Volquartsen Firearms Targe Sear Part Number:3304N0151SSL1 "Eagle's Talon" Extractor Part Number:1705N0012SSL1 Steel Hammer Bushing Part Number:TK04N0002SSL1 "Fire Starter" Titanium Firing Pin Part Number:TK05N0011SSL1 LCI Replacement Insert - Black Part Number:TK04N0003BLK1 The steel hammer bushing was to get rid of the trigger-magazine interlock. Installation was simple, except for the sear. I have big fingers and parkinson's and could the sear is really slick. I had to use a pair of tweezers to hold the sear and the video is sort of iffy on the spring install. Everything else, just follow the videos. Measurements on trigger put dropped from 4 pounds 1 oz. to 1 pound 9 oz. In 250+ rounds fired after the parts replacement, there wasn't a single failure to feed or failure to eject. I did have two misfires. I believe these to be complete duds instead of misfires. I cycled the bullets through again and they still did not fire. And to be fair, the ammo was more than 20 years old. In any case, I consider this to be a successful remediation of problems with my MKIII and it is now much more reliable and less frustrating to shoot. There were no failures of any kind with ammo that purchased within the last decade.
